Are you (Underdog Adventures) a rescue or a shelter? Can I bring or surrender dogs to you?

We are not primarily a rescue or shelter. Our organization mainly helps support local rescues and shelters. However, on very rare occasions, we may take in animals on a case-by-case basis, at the discretion of our team. We reserve the right to decline animals if we are not able to help. If you need to rehome a pet, we recommend contacting local shelters or rescues first, as they are better equipped to handle direct animal intake.

Are you a nonprofit?

Yes, we're a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Your donations are tax-deductible.

Do you have dogs for adoption?

We don't typically adopt dogs directly. We primarily work with shelters and rescues to help their dogs find homes. In rare cases where we have taken in an animal, we may facilitate its adoption.

I found a dog. What do I do?

Please follow these steps to give the dog the best chance of being reunited with their family.

  • Have the dog scanned for a microchip (any vet can do this)
  • Make a found report (see below for specific shelter contact information)
  • Check with people who live in the area
  • Post on local lost pet Facebook pages
  • Post on Nextdoor
  • Post on Pawboost
  • If you cannot hold the dog until an owner or a rescue is found, please call the appropriate Animal Control Agency to pick it up or drop it off during their normal business hours.

We understand that this is a lot of steps, but these dogs deserve it. They deserve the chance to be reunited with their family if they have one. If you find a dog, please do your due diligence and follow these steps. Please know that rescues cannot help until these steps have been completed.

How do I know which agency is correct?

You must report it to the agency that responds to the area where the animal was found:

  • Tulare County Animal Services (unincorporated areas of Tulare County)
  • Visalia Animal Services (Cities of Visalia, Exeter, Farmersville, and Dinuba)
  • Porterville Animal Services Unit (Cities of Porterville, Lindsay, and Woodlake)
No online forms. Call the shelter at (559) 258-0867 to make the found report. If they do not answer, leave a detailed message with your phone number, and they will return your call.
  • Tulare Animal Services (City of Tulare)
Found report must be made in person during regular business hours at Tulare Animal Services, 3817 South K Street, Tulare, CA 93274.

Where can I take this animal to?

Please note that all shelters and rescues are over capacity due to the current pet overpopulation crisis in Tulare County.

Here is a list of a few local rescues that you can contact who may be able to help:

Can you recommend a low-cost veterinarian for spay/neuter?

How can I adopt a dog through your programs?

Come to our events to meet dogs, or we can connect you with our partner shelters. If we happen to have any animals in our care, we'll provide information about them at our events or through our communication channels.

‼️ When making a found report or taking a dog to a shelter, this must be done based on the location the dog was found. Example, a dog found within the city limits of Exeter must be reported/taken to Visalia Animal Services. ‼️
